Dubai Medical District inks deal with du to develop smart services

Dubai Medical District, part of the Ministry of Health, has signed a deal with telecom operator du to develop smart services.

The agreement aims to establish easier modes of payment for users. Both parties will also work towards encouraging and promoting the use of the latest smart solutions in the healthcare sector.

Du will create and establish fibre optic infrastructure in Dubai Medical District. It will offer a group of packages to meet the demands and needs of the ministry’s employees.

“Technology and health are both fundamental components of the innovation strategy,” said du chief commercial officer Fahad Al Hassawi.

“This cooperation will allow the ministry to offer creative solutions and services that will ensure the health of individuals and the overall well-being of the community.”

The agreement is part of the Dubai Smart City initiative, which includes 100 initiatives in transport, communications, infrastructure, electricity, economic services and urban planning. It also calls for 1,000 government services to go ‘smart’ by 2017.

Smart health is also gaining traction in the emirate due to the high smartphone penetration rate. The UAE’s Ministry of Health has announced that it will develop smart versions of all its services in order to serve its users efficiently. In 2015, the government launched 300 smart administrative services in the healthcare sector.
