Home UAE Dubai Dubai ruler orders release of 1,014 prisoners for Ramadan Announcements from the rulers of the other UAE emirates are also expected by Staff Writer May 24, 2017 Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has pardoned 1,014 prisoners in the emirate ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. Dubai Media Office reports that the prisoners are of different nationalities and housed in Dubai’s correctional and punitive establishments. Attorney General of Dubai HE Chancellor Essam Issa Al Humaidan said the order would bring happiness to the prisoners’ families and help them make a fresh start. The public prosecution has commenced legal proceedings to implement the order. Yesterday, UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 977 prisoners for the holy month. Read: UAE President orders the release of nearly 1,000 prisoners for Ramadan Shortly after Sheikh Mohammed’s announcement HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras al-Khaimah, also ordered the release of 363 prisoners and pledged to pay their financial obligations. “He urged the released prisoners to live a righteous life and be good members in the society so as to benefit themselves and their families and have a better future,” according to state news agency WAM.
