Dubai Sports Council and ASICS to organise ‘Marathon at Home’ on April 10

Dubai Sports Council (DSC) along with footwear and sports equipment manufacturer ASICS Middle East and 5:30 Run club, will organise a ‘Marathon at Home’ on Friday, April 10, between 8am and 6pm with a 10-hour time cap.

The timed 42.195km race is open to people of all ages and abilities and is an initiative which is part of DSC’s ‘Be Fit, Be Safe’ campaign that encourages people to stay fit while staying at home as part of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, reported official news agency WAM.

The DSC’s ‘Be Fit, be Safe’ campaign has already received support from some of the sporting world’s biggest names including Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Mikael Silvestre, among others.

Registrations for the ‘Marathon at Home’ are open on the 5:30 Run club website until April 6.

Participants will need to make sure they have a smartwatch or smartphone, with the Strava app installed and activated on it. They will need to join the ‘Marathon at Home’ group on Strava which will keep track of their time and distance covered.

Participants can decide on the shape of their running course, but running on a treadmill or any other training equipment is not accepted.

Running in public areas is also prohibited – they will need to run on the ground and inside their homes, and relays are not permitted too.

The top three finishers in the two categories – Men and Women – will receive a full running gear kit by ASICS, an entry ticket to the Moscow Marathon, which takes place in September 2020, and a finisher medal. The Top 10, meanwhile, will receive 10 EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) functional training sessions from Vertexfitness. All participants who complete the race will receive a certificate, medal and T-shirt.
