Dubai trade with Bahrain increases 170% in 10 years

In the first half of 2020, trade between Dubai and Bahrain amounted to Dhs5.37bn

According to figures shared by Dubai Customs, the emirate’s external trade with Bahrain grew 170 per cent in ten years from 2010-2019.

It reached Dhs16.37bn in 2019, compared to Dhs6bn in 2010.

In the first half of 2020, trade between Dubai and Bahrain amounted to Dhs5.37bn. Imports accounted for the lion’s share at Dhs2.4bn, followed by re-exports at Dhs2bn and imports at Dhs918m.

Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, director general of Dubai Customs, revealed that in 2010, of the Dhs6bn trade between Dubai and Bahrain, imports accounted for Dh2.2bn, exports were Dhs2.7bn and re-exports stood at Dhs1.1bn.

In 2019, however, of Dubai’s Dhs16.3bn trade with the kingdom, imports accounted for Dhs8.8bn, exports were valued at Dhs2.7bn, and re-exports grew to Dhs4.8bn.

“We have very coherent and strong historic relationships with the kingdom of Bahrain,” said Musabih.

“We are committed to enhance our economic ties with Bahrain through facilitating trade and passenger traffic.”

On December 15, Emirates operated a special one-off A380 service to Bahrain.

Emirates has said that it has flown to Bahrain for the last 20 years, and has carried over 6 million passengers between Bahrain and Dubai over that period.
