Dubai’s DP World to advise on Indonesian ports

Dubai ports operator DP World has signed a deal with the Indonesian government to advise on the development of the Kuala Tanjung greenfield port and logistics zone and Belawan port in North Sumatra.

Under the technical assistance contract, DP will share expertise in increasing efficiencies, training and development for employees and developing transport hubs, the company said.

It will also review operations at Belawan port and advise on efficiency improvements and look at ways to reduce costs at the Kuala Tanjung greenfield port and logistics zone.

DP currently operates one port in the country on the northern shore of eastern Java.

“Our existing operations at PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) give us an added advantage of understanding local and regional markets and we look forward to working with the Indonesian port authorities on developing international and domestic trade,” said DP World group chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.

The firm, which operates 78 marine and inland terminals globally, is also eyeing opportunities in a number of other markets including Panama.
