Dubai’s Emirates to fly to London Stansted in 2018

Dubai carrier Emirates has announced plans to begin flights to London Stansted Airport in 2018 as it continues to expand capacity to the UK capital.

The airline said daily flights from Dubai International to Stansted would begin on June 8 and be operated by its new Boeing 777-300ER.

The aircraft features Emirates’ improved first class, business class and economy class seats produced in partnership with Mercedes-Benz, with capacity for six, 42 and 306 passengers in each category respectively.

Outbound flight EK33 will leave Dubai at 9:30am and arrive at London Stansted at 2:10pm. Return flight EK34 will leave Stansted at 9:10pm and arrive in Dubai at 7:05am the next day.

“The introduction of the new London Stansted-Dubai service underscores our commitment to serve London, with operations soon to three different airports in the city. There is a clear demand for this service from both business and leisure travellers and we anticipate that this news will be warmly received both across our global network,” said Emirates president Sir Tim Clark.

The airline said 7.5 million people fall within the Stansted catchment area, including pharmaceutical centres in Cambridge and Peterborough, and the route would also provide opportunities for its freight division.

When the new service begins Emirates will have 10 daily flights between Dubai and London including existing services to London Heathrow and Gatwick.

As a sign of UK demand, the carrier announced last month it would be operating extra flights to London over the Christmas period to cope with an anticipated surge in passengers.
