The ‘Airport maps’ feature will detect the user’s location via Bluetooth and wifi, and will offer navigation throughout the airport, such as check-in desks, lounges, shops, restaurants or ATMs, Emirates announced on Tuesday. The maps technology is aimed at catering to the 90 million passengers who transit through Dubai International Airport annually. The wayfinding feature includes Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 and key airports within the Emirates network – London Heathrow and Gatwick airports and Hong Kong International airport, the statement said. The Emirates app, available in 19 languages, services 1.5 million active users every month, the statement added. Last year, the app introduced customised playlists of inflight entertainment prior to passengers’ travels, so that they could synchronise it to their seats.
