Dubai carrier Emirates will reintroduce the Airbus A380 for flights between Dubai and Houston due to returning demand, the carrier said on Wednesday.

The airline had upgraded the route in December 2014 but made the decision to return to a Boeing 777-300ER service in July 2016 after corporate travel reduced following the collapse of the oil price.

Emirates said A380 flights to Houston would resume on June 1, upgrading the seat capacity to 516, with 14 in first class, 76 in business and 426 in economy.

EK211 leaves Dubai at 9:35am and arrives in Houston at 4:50pm. Return flight EK212 leaves Houston at 8:00pm and arrives in Dubai at 8:00pm the next day.

“With the energy sector recovering and playing a large role in Houston’s resurgence, Emirates took the decision to reinstate the A380 services from 1 June 2018 in line with commercial demand,” Emirates said.

The carrier also announced plans to restore capacity on some US routes in January after cutting flights in 2017 as restrictions imposed by President Donald Trump’s administration weakened demand

The cuts impacted flights to to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando and saw the reduction of services to Seattle, Los Angeles and Boston from two to one a day.

From March 25, Emirates will resume a daily service to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando and on June 1 it will begin direct flights to New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport as it prepares to halt a service to JFK.
