Dubai’s Emirates to resume flights to Khartoum

Dubai airline Emirates has announced that it will resume daily flights to Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, from July 8.

The carrier, along with other UAE airlines including Etihad Airways and flydubai suspended flights to Sudan a month ago in early June due to growing political unrest in the country.

“After closely monitoring the situation in Sudan and conducting an exhaustive review of all operational factors, we have decided to resume our services to Khartoum,” said Orhan Abbas, Emirates’ senior vice president Commercial Operations, Africa.

“This will help support local business and increase access to international markets, as well as benefit passengers connecting to our global network,” he added.

Key destinations for travellers from Sudan include Dubai and the GCC, Malaysia, China, United Kingdom and United States, the airline said.

Operating daily, EK733 departs Dubai at 2.35pm and arrives in Khartoum at 4.40pm. The return flight, EK734, departs Khartoum at 6.10pm and arrives in Dubai at 12.20am the next morning.

Emirates currently operates a Boeing 777ER on the route, offering eight private suites in first class, 42 business class seats and 304 economy class seats.

Sudan has facing a political turmoil following the ousting of President Omar al-Bashir in April by the military.

Several protests have rocked the country since then, with opposition activists clashing against the military. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds injured in the violence.
