Home Industry Hospitality Dubai’s Jumeirah appoints new ‘chief culinary officer’ Former Michelin Guide global director Michael Ellis has been appointed to the newly created role by Aarti Nagraj June 18, 2018 Dubai-based hospitality group Jumeirah has created a new role of chief culinary officer, appointing former Michelin Guide global director Michael Ellis to the post. Ellis, who served as the global director for Europe, Asia and the Americas at Michelin Restaurant and Hotel Guides, will now focus on developing new restaurant concepts, attracting and up-skilling culinary talent, and enhancing existing restaurants to industry-leading levels, a statement said. The creation of the new role is part of Jumeirah CEO José Silva’s strategy to improve the company’s restaurant offerings. The former vice president of Four Seasons, Silva took on the role in January, replacing Stefan Leser who left the company in May last year. He has spent his lifetime championing extraordinary food with absolute dedication and has been responsible for introducing dining and food experiences to new audiences across the globe. “His appointment is the cornerstone of the vision to put dining at the center of Jumeirah’s luxury experience.” According to its website, Jumeirah’s restaurant division currently includes 10 homegrown brands including the Noodle house, Pierchic, Pai Thai, Trattoria Toscana, Segreto, Al Nafoorah, 360, The Agency, Perry and Blackwelder, and Flow. It also operates around 100 restaurants across its hotels worldwide. A member of Dubai Holding, the group operates and manages a portfolio of 15 properties in the Middle East including the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, five properties in Europe and two in Asia with 18 properties currently under construction worldwide. These include at least five that will open this year in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Bali, China and Oman.
