Dubai’s new technology district to offer 4,000 jobs in education, training

Dubai-based firm URB has unveiled the Urban Tech District that will create 4000 jobs in green urban tech, education and training. Located on the Creekside of Al Jaddaf area, it will also be home to venture capitalists who will support entrepreneurs, thus empowering a unique collaborative urban tech ecosystem.

The district will offer conference rooms, training grounds, research labs, seminar rooms, business incubators and other attractions. The building will also offset all its embodied carbon emissions from construction and operation. In addition, as a net zero carbon district, the development will help reduce its partner businesses’ carbon footprint, thus enabling a low-carbon workforce.

The district will help urban-tech solutions develop on a much greater scale and offer investment opportunities to entrepreneurs tackling some of the most important problems pertaining to sustainable cities. It will also open doors for a new generation of creative businesses that need a platform to grow.

Furthermore, the district will also be home to the urban tech institute, fostering the next generation of urban tech leaders. The institute will promote public-private partnerships while offering chances to test out brand-new innovations based on applied research.

Baharash Bagherian, CEO of URB, the company behind the Urban Tech District said: “Dubai is best positioned to lead the Urban Tech transformation than any other city in the world. The Urban Tech District will be a new global tech hub for urban innovation. With a total of 140,000 square metres of built up area, it will be the world’s largest urban tech district.”

Meanwhile, the global urban tech market is estimated to be $158bn, which is expected to multiply in the next decade. Tech-enabled urban developments seek solutions to the challenges created by urbanisation in various areas, such as zero-mile food production, food security, affordable and scalable renewable energy, low energy demand water harvesting, zero-waste management, and waste-to-energy solutions. These are just some of the many challenges our cities are facing.
