Dubai’s RTA Completes 14km Long Jumeirah Corniche Project

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that the Jumeirah Corniche project will be fully open from Sunday, October 26, official news agency WAM reported.

The project stretches 14 kilometers at the beach, from the backyard of the Dubai Marine Beach resort up to Burj Al Arab hotel.

Overlooking six residential communities, it consists of a five meter-wide walk, a four meter-wide jogging track and relaxation areas such as retail kiosks and shaded benches overlooking the sea. It also features landscaped areas and decorative lighting.

Mattar Al Tayer, chairman executive director of the RTA, called on the public and residents to make use of the corniche.

“The Jumeirah Corniche is a gorgeous addition to the area offering relaxation and greater opportunity for the public to enjoy and practice several activities in addition to service facilities for citizens, residents and tourists to enjoy a time out, swim or practice sport.

“Besides its practical value, the venue contributes to upgrading the social infrastructure of the emirate in terms of quality public health of the community, offering ample opportunities for practicing jogging, walking and aquatic sports such as swimming, rowing, and other activities befitting all family members and contributing to their physical wellbeing,” he added.

The project, sanctioned by Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in October last year, will also be linked with the upcoming Dubai water canal project.

“The Jumeirah Corniche will be linked at a later stage with the Walk and the jogging/walking tracks of the Dubai Water Canal; a new urban destination in the making for the regional and international tourist movement as well as for the populace of the emirate. The canal, which links the Business Bay with the Arabian Gulf, will add six km to the Dubai waterfront,” Al Tayer said.

Touted to be a major tourist destination, the Dhs2 billion Dubai Water Canal Project has a completion date of 2017, and will run from Business Bay into the Arabian Gulf, crossing past Safa Park and Jumeirah.

The canal will measure six metres deep while bridges will be built eight metres high to allow the passing of yachts and marine craft. The project will also feature a new shopping centre, four hotels, restaurants, luxury housing and cycling paths.
