Dubai’s RTA To Open Creek And Al Jadaf Metro Stations

Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Wednesday that it will open Al Jadaf and Creek stations on Dubai Metro’s Green Line on March 1.

By opening these two stations, the RTA will make the entire Green Line operational, it said in a statement.

“Al Jadaf and Creek stations; which are located at the end of the Green Line track, serve existing projects and others under construction such as the Culture Village and Sama Al Jadaf, and they will also serve the Dubai Festival City through operating a marine transit service linking with the Creek Station,” said Matter Al Tayer, RTA chairman.

He added that Al Jadaf station will have around 100 parking spots in addition to bus services.

“Operating these two stations will contribute significantly to expediting the development tempo in the neighbourhood, and accordingly the ridership will pick up gradually as per the foreseeable inputs.

“The daily ridership of Al Jadaf station is forecasted at 2100 riders per day, whereas the Creek station is expected to be used by about 1400 riders every day. However, these numbers are poised to double up exponentially with the opening of property development projects, some of which are nearing completion,” said Al Tayer.

The official also said that technical testing for both the stations has been carried out and around 16 employees will man both the stations.

Each station has a capacity to handle 11,000 passengers per hour per direction, RTA said.

According to recent statistics from Dubai’s public transport authority, around 137 million passengers used both the red and green line metro stations in 2013. The green line metro carried around 49 million passengers, figures revealed.

Al Tayer said that the share of public transport in transit options rose to 13 per cent in 2013, up form six per cent in 2011. RTA is aiming to raise this figure to 20 per cent in 2020 and 30 per cent in 2030, official said.

Dubai’s public transport authority is planning to extend the Green Line by 20.6 kilometres, adding 11 stations to the current line. The extended route will serve International City, Academic City and Silicon Oasis, a senior RTA official said.
