Dubai free zone operator TECOM Group has announced it will be cutting registration and licence fees for freelancers.

The Go Freelance initiative, details of which have been available in the media community for some time, includes a 70 per cent cut to registration fees to Dhs7,500 ($2,042) a year.

It is currently available for freelancers in the media and education sectors at the Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Park zones.

Among the business roles covered by the scheme are intelligent education consultant, management coach, lighting specialist, furniture designer, animation specialist, commercial market analyst and others, according to the announcement.

Applicants must provide a completed form, CV, passport copy, bank reference letter, no objection certificate, portfolio of work, education credentials and certificates among other documents.

“The package provides a unique opportunity for media and creative professionals to achieve success and prosperity within the unmatched Dubai Media City business system, which provides advanced infrastructure and a platform for entry into neighbouring markets,” said Dubai Media City general manager Majid Al Suwaidi.

“With the growth of the free business economy at the moment, Go Freelance will enable independent professionals and entrepreneurs to start their careers and make the most of their skills and talents.”

The package is intended to make Dubai a more attractive location for freelancers.

It comes under broader instructions from the emirate’s ruler to make the economy more competitive by reducing business costs and paperwork.
