Home UAE Dubai Ducab HV secures cabling contract for MBR Solar Park in Dubai The Phase 5 Project of the MBR Solar Park requires the use of approximately 275km of cable by Varun Godinho October 26, 2020 Ducab HV, a subsidiary of Ducab Group, has been awarded the project to supply and install high-voltage cables for Phase 5 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park) in Dubai. The Phase 5 Project of the MBR Solar Park requires the use of approximately 275km of cable. The project will be executed over three plots of 300 megawatts each, confirmed a statement by the Dubai Media Office. As the cable subcontractor appointed by Shanghai Electric of China, Ducab HV will be responsible for cable installation, in addition to supplying the cable and its accessories. The Solar Park project is the largest single-site solar power plant in the Middle East, comprising of both photovoltaic and concentrated solar power technologies, and will offer a total capacity of around 5GW once complete. Customised cabling is in high demand for projects solar, wind, and nuclear energy projects. “Ducab has a strong record of contributing towards some of the most prestigious projects in the UAE and the wider GCC region, and the MBR Solar Park is no exception. We are very pleased with this project win and all the support received from a collective team effort. The project will see quality, ‘Made in UAE’ cables continue to be incorporated into the landmark site,” said Mike Engelbrecht, CEO of Ducab HV. The solar project aims to help the emirate achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 which will strive to ensure that 75 percent of Dubai’s total power output is sourced from clean energy by 2050. Clean energy currently accounts for around 9 per cent of Dubai’s total output.
