DWC To Build Dhs120m Aerospace Supply Chain Facility

Dubai World Central has announced that it is building a new Dhs120 million aerospace supply chain facility at its aviation district.

The development will include three facilities spread across an area of 45,000 square metres and will also include a multi-purpose building for tenants, a statement said.

The facility will also cater to the small and medium companies in the global maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector and will comprise of both front offices and warehouses.

The project is being designed and developed by DWC, and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2016.

“This project marks the latest milestone in our journey to create infrastructure for players across the aerospace supply chain spectrum,” said Tahnoon Saif, vice president, Aviation District.

“The location enjoys several benefits such as unrivalled access to both the Al Maktoum International Airport and the Jebel Ali Port. There are also productivity and efficiency benefits arising from the ‘cluster effect’ with suppliers and collaborators present in close proximity within the DWC Aviation District.”

The MRO sector offers a number of aviation support services including the maintenance of landing gear, avionics, hydraulics and braking systems along with specialised services such as aircraft painting and plumbing.

The DWC Aviation District is a 6.7 square kilometre master planned district adjacent to Al Maktoum International Airport. It offers ready-to-build aviation infrastructure and will also offer zones for sectors such as hospitality, education, research and development, and mixed-used developments in the future.

The district is increasingly finding favour among industry stakeholders as it provides the required infrastructure and space for facilities to expand in line with Dubai’s aviation sector.

Recently, DWC announced that it has begun work on a new executive jet terminal that will host fixed base operators such as Jet Aviation, XJet and Jetex.

The aerotropolis also inked a deal last year with France-based aircraft painting firm STTS Group for a new facility worth Dhs150 million to be set up in its aviation district.
