Home Transport Aviation Emirates Adding Second Daily A380 To Munich Munich authorities will have weighed up the increased traffic benefits against the impact it will likely have on Lufthansa’s Dubai-Munich loads. by Dominic Ellis November 13, 2013 Emirates will deploy a second daily A380 to Munich from March 30 next year. The second daily A380 operation will have a three-class configuration comprising 14 first class private suites, 76 business class seats and 399 economy seats. Munich authorities will have given much thought to allowing in the second superjumbo, weighing up the increased traffic benefits against the impact it will likely have on Lufthansa’s Dubai-Munich loads – although an Emirates spokesman said there were no concerns, as it has “unrestricted access” to four points in Germany as part of current air service agreements. Christian Ude, Lord Mayor of Munich, said: “Due to the capacity increase, even more guests will come to us from the airline’s global route network – without increasing the number of flight movements.” The second reference is significant, as slot restrictions have hampered growth at the Bavarian airport. Munich Airport’s president and CEO, Dr. Michael Kerkloh, flew into the UAE two weeks ago to meet with Etihad managers to see how it can generate more business, particularly transfer traffic in conjunction with airberlin (click here). Kerkloh is now understandably “very pleased” that Emirates will operate Munich twice a day with its flagship Airbus A380 aircraft in the coming year. Since November 2011, when the first service was inaugurated, over 600,000 passengers have flown the Emirates A380 to and from Munich. 0 Comments
