Emirates cancels flights due to Super Typhoon Saola

The airline notified that customers flying or connecting to Hong Kong will not be accepted for travel at the point of origin until further notice

The UAE’s flag carrier Emirates has announced that it is cancelling its flights to Hong Kong for the next two days. The airline notified that flights flying to and coming from the city will stand cancelled on September 1 and 2.

The airline has issued a cancellation notice to its Hong Kong passengers owing to a storm bearing down on the island city. Emirates said, “Due to severe weather conditions caused by Super Typhoon SAOLA, flights have been cancelled to/from Hong Kong.”

Emirates issues flight cancellation notice

The cancelled flights are:

EK380 on September 1

EK384 DXB‑HKG and BKK‑HKG on September 1

EK385 HKG‑DXB and HKG‑BKK on September 1

EK381 on September 2

The airline added that customers connecting to Hong Kong will not be accepted for travel at the point of origin until further notice.

It clarified that customers impacted by the cancellation and who have booked with travel agents should contact their service provider for “alternative travel arrangements.”

“Customers who have booked directly with Emirates may contact their local office for rebooking options”.

In order to receive the latest updates on their flights, customers are also advised to ensure that their contact details are correct by visiting the Emirates’ Manage Your Booking section.

Other cancellations

The typhoon is set to make landfall on Friday afternoon before moving northwest to Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s flag carrier Cathay Pacific has announced flight cancellations for the above dates.

It said, “As a result of Super Typhoon Saola approaching Hong Kong, a number of flights scheduled to arrive and depart from Hong Kong International Airport on Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2 have been affected. We’ll continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.”
