Emirates deploys first A380 with revamped onboard lounge

Dubai airline Emirates has deployed its first A380 aircraft with a revamped onboard lounge on a flight to Kuala Lumpur, it announced on Tuesday.

The onboard lounge was first introduced on August 1, 2008 and has since become a part of Emirates’ double decker aircraft.

The latest multi-million dollar revamp of the lounge was announced earlier this year, with the interior inspired by private yacht cabins, the airline said.

The new A380 lounge offers more space with a new seating arrangement along the windows on both sides of the bar, with a 55-inch LCD screen at the back.

Each seating area also has a table and window view.

The new lounge also features lighter champagne colours in the cabin and lounge seating, along with a glossy dark wood trim for “an airier look and feel”.

Overall, the lounge can accommodate up to 26 passengers at a time, including eight seated.

In terms of F&B, it offers six wines – which differ by destination (a champagne offering of Moët & Chandon or Veuve Clicquot is always available). Over 6,000 crew members have also been trained as mixologists, and can create 14 cocktails, the airline said.

The lounge also serves over 18 different bar snacks, including smoked salmon bagels and fresh fruit skewers.

The menu also includes juices, Illy coffee and several varieties of tea from Dilmah.

The lounge remains on the upper deck of the aircraft, for first and business class passengers.

All of Emirates’ 96 A380 aircraft currently in service feature the onboard lounge.

The world’s largest operator of the jumbo jet, Emirates has a further 46 of the double-decker aircraft on order.

It currently flies the A380 to 48 cities on six continents, and has carried 80 million passengers on the aircraft since 2008.
