Home Transport Aviation Emirates Expands Colombo Services Additional three services a week from June 30 will be operated by B777-300ER aircraft. by Dominic Ellis May 22, 2013 Emirates is adding three more flights a week to Colombo from June 30. The additional flights will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, increasing the number of flights between the two cities to four each day on those days, and taking the total number of weekly flights to the Sri Lankan city to 31. The trio will be operated by two-class Boeing B777-300ER aircraft, offering 42 business class seats and 23 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight. Emirates, which started services to Colombo in 1986, operates a triple daily service from Dubai, with one stopping in The Maldives, as well as a daily flight from Singapore. The increase will further raise competition on a route served by SriLankan Airlines and flydubai. Speaking at the Arabian Travel Market, Kapila Chandrasena, Director/CEO of SriLankan Airlines, described the market as “ultra-competitive” but also identified “huge potential” between the two cities. The airline is due to join oneworld, the global alliance in which Qatar Airways is also a new member, from early next year. 0 Comments
