An Emirates flight from Dubai to Melbourne was met by emergency services early on Thursday after experiencing a technical snag.

The pilot of flight EK406 alerted Melbourne Airport to the problem before the A380 landed at around 6am Thursday local time in the Australian city.

Australian media reported airport fire trucks were waiting on the tarmac as the super jumbo touched down.

An airport spokesperson told the Herald Sun the pilot had requested a local standby, which was not an emergency.

The onward flight from Melbourne to Auckland, New Zealand was cancelled so the aircraft could be inspected.

An Emirates spokeswoman said the aircraft was met by emergency services “as a precaution due to a technical issue”, and was checked by the Emirates engineering team on arrival.

To minimise delays, passengers on the connecting flight to Auckland were rebooked on alternative services, she said.

“Emirates apologises for any inconvenience caused, however, the safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance.”
