Emirates introduces new mobile check-in ports at Dubai International airport

UAE carrier Emirates has introduced 25 mobile Check-in Ports at Dubai International airport Terminal 3.

Emirates staff at the Check-in Ports will help check-in customers, weigh the bags, tag them, and will also provide boarding passes.

Each Check-in Port has a scale attached to it for weighing luggage and Emirates’ staff will be also on hand at each station to provide assistance.

Passengers with two or less bags checking in at Economy, Business and First Class will be encouraged to use the service, which the airline says will help cut down queues and reduce waiting times during peak hours.

The new portable units which were developed in the UAE will be deployed throughout the check-in halls in the terminal.

“The use of advanced technologies and robots will continue to be introduced in our operational and customer touchpoints. Our latest Check-in Portals are a step in this direction and we are also working on other initiatives that rely on technology and artificial intelligence, to be introduced in the near future at different areas,” said Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ COO.

The airline has previously introduced several technology-=driven features at its Dubai base to aid customer journeys through the terminal. In 2020, the airline launched an “integrated biometric path” at DXB to facilitate a contactless passenger experience. The biometric technology includes a mix of facial and iris recognition to allow Emirates passengers to check in for their flight, complete immigration formalities, enter the Emirates Lounge, and board their flights, without the intervention of airport staff, while reducing document checks and the possibility of passengers queuing up along the way.

The Smart Tunnel project by the General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) in collaboration with the carrier, that was introduced a few years ago was the first of its kind passport control mechanism in the world wherein passengers can walk through a tunnel and are “cleared” by immigration authorities without human intervention or a physical passport stamp.
