Home Industry Finance Emirates Islamic contributes Dhs10m to UAE’s Covid-19 relief fund Emirates Islamic is the first Dubai-based financial institution to contribute to the fund launched by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department by Varun Godinho April 12, 2020 Dubai-headquartered Emirates Islamic, part of the Emirates NBD Group, has contributed Dhs10m to support the Community Solidarity Fund Against Covid-19 launched by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai. The fund announced by the IACAD aims to facilitate community contributions and donations to support the efforts to mitigate the health, economic and social challenges combating the coronavirus outbreak. Emirates Islamic is the first Dubai financial institution to offer financial support to the fund, reported official news agency WAM. “We are pleased to make this contribution to the Community Solidarity Fund Against Covid-19 in line with our values and responsibilities towards the community and our keenness to support greater cooperation between individuals, the government and the business sector during this critical period. These unified national efforts aim to provide medical and economic assistance to members of our community who are most in need during this challenging time,” said Hesham Abdulla Al Qassim, vice chairman and managing director of Emirates NBD Group and Chairman of Emirates Islamic. On April 6, UAE-based banks Emirates NBD and Emirates Islamic have pledged Dhs4m from their charity fund towards the UAE’s Ministry of Education (MoE) to facilitate the ongoing nation-wide distance learning programmes. On Saturday, April 11, the country’s Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that there were 376 new Covid-19 cases detected in the country, taking the total number of infections in the country up to 3,736.
