UAE-based carrier Emirates will increase the frequency of its services to Canada with two additional flights per week between Dubai and Toronto.

Starting April 20, Emirates will therefore operate a daily flight on the route. The decision to do so comes following an expanded air transport agreement between the UAE and Canada.

Emirates operates its flagship A380 aircraft on the Dubai-Toronto route. The aircraft holds a total of 491 passengers across its economy, business class and first class cabins on each flight.

With the two additional flights per week, Emirates will offer close to 2,000 more seats on the Dubai-Toronto route, representing a 40 per cent increase in capacity between Dubai and the Canadian city.

Emirates added that the Dubai-Toronto route is already highly popular amongst customers from India, UAE, Bangladesh, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka, while the same countries represent top destinations for travellers from Toronto too.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ chief commercial officer, said: “We have been serving customers between Toronto and Dubai since 2007, and although the double-decker A380 aircraft has been operating the route since 2009, demand arising from leisure and corporate travellers, diaspora and students has consistently outstripped the allocated capacity.

“Together with the relevant authorities, our codeshare and loyalty programme partner Air Canada, we look forward to playing a role in facilitating more tourism and trade opportunities between the two nations.”

In December last year, Emirates and Air Canada – Canada’s largest airline – expanded their partnership to offer frequent flyer members joint loyalty programme benefits. Emirates Skywards members can now earn and redeem Miles on all flights operated by Air Canada – accessing a network of more than 220 destinations worldwide. Air Canada’s Aeroplan members will also be able to earn and redeem Points on all flights operated by Emirates – with access to more than 130 destinations across six continents, via the airline’s hub of Dubai.

As for lounge access, Emirates Skywards Platinum and Gold members travelling in economy class with Air Canada or Emirates will also enjoy complimentary access to Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Café in Toronto Pearson along with one guest.
