Emirates to codeshare with Batik Air Malaysia

Dubai-based carrier Emirates has announced a codeshare with Batik Air Malaysia that would allow Emirates customers to access five domestic Malaysian cities and three regional South East Asia points operated by Batik Air via Kuala Lumpur International airport (KLIA).

Emirates will place its code on Batik Air-operated flights to Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, Denpasar, Jakarta and Singapore.

Emirates customers will also have the option to stopover in Kuala Lumpur before proceeding to their final destination. The airline will gain access to eight additional destinations operated by Batik Air via Kuala Lumpur for interline transfers.

Emirates has been operating flights to Malaysia since 1996, and currently has 21 weekly flights to Kuala Lumpur using a mix of Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft.

The airline currently has 30 codeshare, 11 intermodal and 118 interline partners, including the Jakarta-based Lion Air Group and its subsidiaries Batik Air Indonesia and Batik Air Malaysia.

“Malaysia is an important market in our Far East network and we’re pleased to offer increased connectivity and more options for our customers to new and exciting destinations. Through this partnership, we’ll further expand our network reach to more than 1,490 cities worldwide,” said Orhan Abbas, Emirates’ senior vice president of Commercial Operations (Far East).

In October last year, Emirates activated a codeshare partnership with Batik Air, a member carrier of the Lion Air Group. That agreement allowed Emirates passengers access to 25 Indonesian points on a single ticket and with one baggage policy.

By way of that agreement, Emirates placed its code on eight routes operated by Batik Air via Jakarta to Balikpapan (BPN), Denpasar (DPS), Medan (KNO), Manado (MDC), Padang (PDG), Surakarta (SOC), Surabaya (SUB) and Makassar (UPG).

In addition, via an interline agreement, Emirates customers can also access 17 more domestic Indonesian points via Jakarta and Denpasar, to cities such as Praya (LOP), Semarang (SRG), Sorong (SOQ), among others.
