The flight signifies the partnership between the Abu Dhabi airline and the Netherlands carrier KLM, who signed a codesharing agreement last year. The inaugural flight carried the KL code of the Dutch airliner as it took off for Netherlands’ capital city on Wednesday morning. The new daily service between Abu Dhabi and Amsterdam complements KLM’s flights on that route, which carries Etihad Airways’ EY code, ensuring the two airlines will offer a combined double daily service from the summer. The Airbus A330-200, configured to carry 262 passengers, will be greeted with a ceremonial water cannon salute by Dutch fire engines as it taxis to the gate at Schiphol.
