Home UAE Abu Dhabi Etihad Signs Codeshare With Aegean Airlines Agreement provides Greeks with greater global connectivity and Etihad with improved access to Greece and mainland Europe by Dominic Ellis December 19, 2013 Etihad Airways has signed a codeshare agreement with Aegean Airlines. The agreement will see the Greek airline start four-times weekly services between Athens and Abu Dhabi from March 30 and Etihad will place its EY code on the new flight, subject to regulatory approvals. Aegean Airlines will operate this service with a 168-seat A320 aircraft. Beyond Athens, Etihad Airways will place its code on Aegean-operated flights to 16 Greek destinations, and further 10 cities across Europe (Vienna, Prague, Rome, Venice, Warsaw, Bucharest, Madrid, Tirana, Sofia and Larnaca), while Aegean will offer new codeshare routes between Abu Dhabi and Athens, Bahrain, Kuwait, Johannesburg, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Both airlines will look to boost traffic flows to the Gulf, South Africa and Australia (Melbourne has the largest Greek population outside Europe). James Hogan, Etihad Airways president and CEO, said it has seen strong demand since starting daily Abu Dhabi-Athens flights in June 2009 and the new codeshare enhances links between Greece and Etihad’s global network and makes the Greek islands more accessible to its leisure passengers. 0 Comments
