UAE carrier Etihad Airways has started four times weekly services between Abu Dhabi and Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, providing a direct link between the two cities.

The inaugural flight was operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft, configured to carry 136 passengers, with 16 business class seats and 120 seats in economy. The new Abu Dhabi – Yerevan route will offer a total of 1,088 seats per week.

“The new flights cater for the significant and growing demand for travel between the UAE and Armenia, as well as cities with large Armenian populations around the world,” said James Mueller, Etihad Airways’ senior vice president, Global Sales.

Trade between the UAE and Armenia has grown significantly over recent years, with the UAE Armenia’s largest trading partner in the Gulf region. In June, the trade chambers of Armenia and the UAE also signed a cooperation agreement to further boost economic relations and strengthen bilateral trade.

“The new service to Yerevan will contribute to inbound tourism and stimulate economic and commercial ties between the UAE and Armenia,” Sergey Avetisyan, deputy minister of Economy for the Republic of Armenia.

Etihad Airways currently flies daily to Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, DC, and twice daily to New York. Direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Dallas Fort Worth will start from December 3.
