Trump expected to be arraigned as early as Tuesday, lawyer says

Former President Donald Trump is expected to be arraigned as early as Tuesday, according to his defence attorney Joe Tacopina.

Trump was indicted in New York for directing hush money payments made during his 2016 campaign. A grand jury returned the indictment on Thursday, according to two people with knowledge of the matter, who asked not to be identified because the charges haven’t yet been made public. He’s the first former US president to be indicted.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, in a statement posted to Twitter, said they had been in contact with Trump’s attorney to coordinate his surrender for arraignment on an indictment that remains under seal.

Trump, who is running for president again, said in a statement the indictment is “political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history.”
