French hotel group Accor appoints new Middle East CEO

Mark Willis will oversee a regional footprint of nearly 400 hotels in operation and development

French hotel group Accor on Tuesday announced the appointment of Mark Willis as its Middle East and Africa CEO.

Willis joins the company from Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts following Accor’s $575.8m of the firm earlier this month.

The company said that deal made it the largest hotel operator in the Middle East and Africa, with a combined regional network of nearly 400 properties in operation and in the pipeline.

Willis will oversee this footprint, which includes hotels under the the Fairmont, Raffles, Novotel, Sofitel, Ibis, Swissotel, Pullman and MGallery brands, and a regional strategy to reach 50,000 employees by 2021.

Accor said Willis would be taking on a new role and not directly replacing Oliver Granet, who is embarking “on a new project to drive sustainable development in Africa” with the company.
