Gas Explosion In Saadiyat Injures One Resident

One resident was injured in a gas explosion that occurred in building 1 of Saadiyat Beach Residences on Tuesday night, authorities said.

The man, who was in his apartment at the time of the explosion, is now in a stable condition, local daily The National reported.

The Tourism Development and Investment Company, which manages Saadiyat Residences, confirmed the resident’s injuries through a statement: “The resident is being treated at one of the local hospitals and his condition is stable.

Following the accident, TDIC shifted all residents to a hotel to secure the building.

“All residents of building 1 at Saadiyat Beach Residences are safe and alternative accommodation has been provided for them as of last night. The safety and security of the residents and their families remains TDIC’s top priority,” it said.

Shards of glass and debris peppered the building following a loud explosion on Tuesday evening, residents reported. The cause of the incident is not yet known, TDIC said.

“TDIC is still working closely with the relevant authorities to find out when it is permissible for the residents to move back to their apartments,” the developer said.

“In the meantime, the relevant authorities are still investigating to identify the cause behind the incident. The company will provide an update on the situation as soon as it is made available.”

The incident is the latest in a string of home accidents in the UAE, following the the fire at Dubai Marina’s Torch Tower last month.

Although the blaze did not lead to any injuries, police and firefighters conducted a massive evacuation of the affected building and surrounding homes.

Another major fire occurred at the Tamweel Tower residential development in Jumeirah Lakes Towers in 2012.
