GCC Covid-19 update: UAE reports 731 cases, Saudi registers 2,736 infections

The death toll in the UAE and Saudi Arabia has risen to 220 and 312 respectively

UAE
The Ministry of Health and Prevention reported 731 new Covid-19 infections on May 17, detected as a result of over 40,000 tests conducted to screen for the virus.

Meanwhile, six individuals of different nationalities have died due to complications associated with the Covid-19 infection, spiking the death toll to 220.

The total number of recorded Covid-19 cases in the country has now risen to 23,358.

The ministry also announced 581 additional recoveries, raising the number of cured patients to 8,512.

Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Health announced 2,736 Covid-19 cases across the country, raising the total number of infections to 54,752.

The city of Makkah reported 557 cases, followed by Riyadh (488) and Madinah (392).

The ministry also reported 10 additional deaths. This brings the Covid-19-related death toll to 312.

Oman
The sultanate recorded 157 new Covid-19 cases, including 81 Omani and 76 expatriates, raising the total number to 5,186. 

The Ministry of Health also reported 22 deaths and 1,465 cases of recoveries.

 

Bahrain
As of May 16, 8.30pm local time, Bahrain reported a total of 3,973 active Covid-19 cases, of whom three are said to be in a critical condition.

A total of 12 people have so far succumbed to the virus.

Kuwait
On May 17, the Ministry of Health announced a total of 4,093 recoveries, Kuwait News Agency reported.

Qatar
The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar announced a total of 1,632 positive Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Currently, there are a total of 28,219 active Covid-19 patients in the country while 165 are currently admitted in the intensive care unit.
