Home GCC Saudi Arabia Over 3.1 Million Pilgrims Perform Hajj The Saudi government has said that its measures have ensured that pilgrims are safe and secure. by Aarti Nagraj October 28, 2012 Over three million Muslims performed the annual Hajj pilgrimage this year, according to official figures released by Saudi Arabia’s General Statistics and Information Department. A total of 3,161,573 pilgrims undertook the rituals in the Kingdom this year, including more than 1.7 million foreigners from 189 countries and 1.4 million Saudis. Meanwhile, health officials announced that there have been no incidents of infectious or epidemic diseases among the pilgrims, reported the officials Saudi Press Agency. Dr. Mohammed Khashim, deputy minister of Health for Planning and Development, said that the measures and precautions taken by the Ministry of Health managed to prevent the outbreak of any infectious diseases. He also added that the number of deaths among pilgrims for this year is lower than the previous years. The Kingdom has also deployed over 100,000 security and civil defense officers and installed around 3,000 CCTV cameras across the Hajj area to ensure the safety of the pilgrims this year.
