Inaugural UAE Tolerance Esports Games to begin on November 13

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, inaugurated the first edition of the UAE Tolerance Esports Games on Tuesday.

The games will begin on November 13 and registrations are open to players from around the world via toleranceesports.com

Set over two days, players will be able to compete in the qualifiers with the finals being held and broadcasted on the second day.

The tournament will feature a Swiss system format for the first day, to ensure that all players can enjoy at least a full day of participation.

The games that will be played include DOTA 2, Hearthstone, eFootball PES 2021 and Chess.

On Tuesday, Sheikh Nahyan also launched the Global Commission for Tolerance in Esports and Gaming during the second day of the fourth edition of the National Festival for Tolerance and Coexistence.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, is being held under the theme of ”On Zayed’s Legacy: Tolerance, Coexistence, Hope, Work”, and will end on November 16, the International Day of Tolerance.

“The global commission is the result of an MoU, signed between the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence in the UAE and the International Esports Federation (IESF), to work together to promote Tolerance and Coexistence through Esports,” said Sheikh Nahyan, while chairing the meeting of the commission.

“We seek to foster a culture that distinguishes between the intensely competitive nature of the game and the cooperative nature of life. A culture that teaches us to respect our opponents, to encourage teammates, to manage our emotions, to be a team player, to accept victory and defeat with equal grace, and to be resilient.”

“I hope that by working together, the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence and the IESF will create an online culture that recognises, even when we are connected virtually, that we are still interacting with our fellow human beings.”

The six founding members of the commission are Arkady Dvorkovich, president of FIDE (the World Chess Federation); Nicole Pike, YouGov global sector head of esports and gaming; Curtis Kohlhass, chief development officer of the Carter Center; Kenneth Fok, president of the Asian Esports Federation; Dr. Heidi Alaudeen Alaskary, CEO of the Special Olympics for Saudi Arabia, and Dr. Wirdati Mohammed Radzi, sports commissioner for the Ministry of Youth and Sport in Malaysia.

“This powerful team brings an invaluable wealth of talent and experience to the commission. I look forward to working with them all to promote tolerance and coexistence,” added Sheikh Nahyan.

The IESF is a non-profit organisation founded in 2008, and is composed of more than 70 member national federations across the world.
