Intel unveils 11th Gen Intel Core processors, new Evo architecture

Intel has been beset by a series of bad news of late, shattering the reputation of the revered innovator of all things tech.

First was the news that Intel will lose Apple as a customer, with the latter moving microprocessor design in-house. Apple will start using the ARM architecture for chipsets for Macs, as it has done for iPhone and iPad.

Then, Intel announced that issues with its upcoming 7nm process will result in delays for its next generation of chips for at least six months. That set the company further back against competitors such as AMD which has already been kitting its Ryzen 4000 chips based on the 7nm architecture for months.

So the announcement of the launch of its 11th Gen Intel Core processors should come as a timely breather.

Code-named Tiger Lake, the new processors come with Intel Iris Xe graphics and deliver “up to 2.7x faster content creation, more than 20 per cent faster office productivity and more than 2x faster gaming plus streaming in real-world workflows over competitive products,” according to the company.

More than 150 designs based on 11th Gen Intel Core processors are expected soon from Acer, Asus, Dell, Dynabook, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, Razer, Samsung and others.

The new chipsets leverage Intel’s new SuperFin process technology to optimise power efficiency with better performance and responsiveness while running at higher frequencies versus prior generations.

Intel also launched a new platform, Intel Evo, for the thin and light “ultrabook” segment. Evo promises system wake from sleep in less than 1 second; nine or more hours of battery life on systems with FHD displays, and; fast charging with up to 4-hour charge in under 30 minutes on systems with FHD displays.

“11th Gen Intel Core processors with Intel Iris Xe graphics are a major leap forward in real-world processor performance and are the best laptop processors we have built,” said Gregory Bryant, Intel executive vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group.
