Home GCC Kuwait Kuwait blocks parliament proposal for 10-day Ramadan holiday The proposal would have meant no work for roughly a third of the holy month by Staff Writer April 9, 2018 Kuwait’s government has blocked an attempt by MPs to make the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan a public holiday. Kuwaiit Times reports that Abdullah Fahhad and Majed Al-Mutairi were among a group of parliament members to submit the proposal. Both the Civil Service Commission and the fatwa and legislation department rejected the proposals, according to the publication. Sharjah Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences said last month that Ramadan was likely to begin on May 17 and end on June 15. If the MPs got their wish this would mean a national holiday spanning from June 5 to June 15 or longer. It was unclear if they intended for the break to include Eid Al Fitr celebrations marking the end of the holy month.
