Home Industry Retail Lulu plans new food processing facility in Abu Dhabi The facility will serve Lulu’s hypermarkets in the UAE and abroad by Ben Welham December 13, 2018 Abu Dhabi’s Lulu Group has announced plans to establish a major cold storage and food processing facility in ZonesCorp’s Abu Dhabi Food Zone The company, which operates 157 hypermarkets across 10 countries, said the cold storage area would span 130,000sqm and serve the accompanying food processor and a separate warehouse for food storage. Lulu Group International chairman and managing director Yusuff Ali M A said construction should be completed in 12 to 14 months. “This plant will not only serve the needs of the UAE population, but also support our export ambitions. We currently manage 157 hypermarkets spread across the GCC region, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries, and the food we process in the UAE will also be exported to these locations,” he said. ZonesCorp said the announcement was line with its efforts to establish public private partnerships. “With four million square metres of prime land in the cities of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, the F&B Zone of ZonesCorp offers state-of-the-art infrastructure, strong logistics and transportation network, competitive lease rates, and low operating costs proving to be very attractive for food producers,” said ZonesCorp director general Saeed Eisa Al Khyeili. The announcement was made at the SIAL Middle East 2018 event in Abu dhabi.
