Home UAE Dubai Motorists in Dubai to be excused for committing minor road offences Dubai police is running a scheme under which motorists can have their traffic fines reduced or even completely waived off by Staff writer August 8, 2019 Motorists in Dubai who commit minor offences when they are about to avail discounts on traffic fines will be let off, a senior Dubai official has said. Under a new initiative launched by the Dubai Police earlier this year, motorists can have their accumulated existing traffic fines reduced or even completely waived off. It requires the driver to abide by the traffic laws and regulations for a full calendar year starting from February 2019. Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander in chief of Dubai Police told Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm: “We cannot waste the effort of a person who has been committed to six months since the initiative was launched in February, and is about to get a 50 per cent discount on irregularities because of a minor violation.” Minor offences are expected to cover offences that do not harm other drivers or road users. As part of the initiative, those who do not commit any traffic violations for the first three months can obtain a reduction of 25 per cent on the total accumulated existing fines. That percentage increases to 50 per cent if no offence is committed for six months, 75 per cent at nine months and 100 per cent if no violations are recorded in 12 months.
