Home Industry Retail Nakheel receives construction bids starting at Dhs4.2bn for Deira Mall The mall will feature over 1,100 shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment outlets by Staff writer February 20, 2017 Dubai developer Nakheel said it has received three construction proposals for Deira Mall, its mega new shopping hub to be built at Deira Islands. Three bids were submitted for the February 20 deadline, with the lowest starting at Dhs4.2bn, the company said. Spread across 6.5 million sqft, Deira Mall will be located at the centre of Deira Islands, offering over 4 million sq ft of leasable space. It will feature over 1,100 shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment outlets across three floors. An atrium will have retractable roofs to bring natural light into the complex and allow open air shopping in cooler months. There will also be a multi-storey car park with nearly 8,400 spaces. The Dhs40m design contract for the mall was awarded in June 2014. In terms of gross leasable area (GLA), the new mall will beat Emaar-operated Dubai Mall, which offers 3.77 million sq ft of GLA. A construction tender for Deira Boulevard was released last month. Deira Mall is one of two large-scale retail projects being undertaken by Nakheel at Deira Islands. The other, Deira Islands Night Souk, is set to become the world’s largest night market, with 5,300 shops and almost 100 quayside cafes and restaurants. All units at the Night Souk are fully leased and the project is due for completion in 2018.
