Home Industry Retail New $117m City Centre Suhar in Oman to open in Jan 2019 The mall will have more than 120 stores, a nine-screen VOX Cinemas and a Carrefour store by Aarti Nagraj December 31, 2018 UAE mall operator Majid Al Futtaim has confirmed that its OMR45m ($117m) City Centre Suhar mall development in Oman will open in January 2019. The final phase of construction is currently underway at the site, a statement said. When operational, the mall will have more than 120 stores, a nine-screen VOX Cinemas, a 7,348 sqm Carrefour, entertainment experiences and dining options. Located on Al Batinah main road in the city of Suhar, the mall will add 35,301 square metres of gross leasable area to Oman’s retail sector. The mall, first announced in August 2017, was initially scheduled to open in late 2018. The construction contract was awarded to Oman-based Al Turki Enterprise. Read: UAE’s Majid Al Futtaim announces plans for $117m Sohar mall City Centre Suhar is part of Majid Al Futtaim’s investment plans to increase the company’s total investment in the Sultanate to OMR705m by 2020. The project will add to the company’s other properties in Oman including the recently upgraded City Centre Qurum and City Centre Muscat, which also underwent an OMR27m ($70m) expansion. In March, Majid Al Futtaim also opened its first community mall in Oman – My City Centre Sur, which features more than 50 retail outlets spread across 16,500 sqm and 484 parking spaces. With an investment of OMR15.2m ($39.5m), the mall in Sur includes a Carrefour hypermarket, a Magic Planet family entertainment centre and other stores in fashion, jewellery, and cosmetics.
