Home Industry Transport New Sharjah road cuts travel time by half The new route includes multiple tunnels cut through the mountains by Staff Writer April 15, 2018 A new highway linking Sharjah with its eastern holding of Khor Fakkan was officially opened by the emirate’s ruler on Saturday. Authorities say the four-lane transport link will cut travel time between the two areas by half. In total it spans 89km and has five tunnels – the 2.7km Al Sidra Tunnel, the 1.4km Al Saqab Tunnel, the 1.3km Al Rogh Tunnel, the 0.9km Al Ghazeer Tunnel and the 0.3km Al Sahah Tunnel. The new route also includes a rest stop and recreational centre at Al Rafisah Dam. By boring through the mountains between the two areas the average commute has been reduced from an hour and a half to 45 minutes. صاحب السمو #حاكم_الشارقة يفتتح رسمياً #استراحة_سد_الرفيصة....#الإمارات #الشارقة #خورفكان #طريق_الشارقة_خورفكان#طريق_الشارقة_خورفكان_الجديد #شكراً_والدنا_سلطان #شكراً_أبونا_سلطان pic.twitter.com/W7pc9lJgFc — @SharjahMedia (@sharjahmedia) April 14, 2018 A second phase of the project will include a new road from Khor Fakkan to Shais.
