$1bn New York University Abu Dhabi Construction Completed

The project was designed by award-winning architects Rafael Vinolycovers and developed by state-owned investment company Mubadala.

New York University Abu Dhabi has completed construction of its $1 billion campus located on Saadiyat Island.

The campus covers 450,000 square metres and reaches heights in excess of 50 metres.

It was designed by award-winning architects Rafael Vinolycovers and developed by state-owned investment company Mubadala.

“NYU Abu Dhabi has set uniquely demanding goals for the quality of the faculty, students, and staff that it recruits, and for the excellence of its academic programmes. We have likewise set rigorous standards for the fair and humane treatment of those who are building, maintaining, and operating our facilities,” said Al Bloom, NYUAD vice chancellor.

Features on the campus include academic buildings, a library, theatres, indoor sports facilities, student and faculty residences and laboratories. There is also a site wide basement for servicing and parking and a two level podium.

Additional outdoor sports facilities, including pitches, a grandstand, and an athletics track, are scheduled for completion by mid-July.

The total site is set to cover 15.4 hectares, split into two plots.

The second plot houses the university sports facilities including a Track and Field arena with showcase pitch for soccer, a training pitch and six tennis courts together with a locker room and club house facilities.

According to figures by Al Futtaim Carillion LLC, construction activities on the main site include the provision of:

Approximately 117,000m2 of Academic space including, instructional, faculty & administration.
Approximately 142,000m2 of housing for students, faculty and staff.
Approximately 34,000m2 of car parking.
Approximately 8200m2 of research areas.

The university officially opens May 25.
