Home Industry Transport Oman government taxi service begins operations The company will begin airport taxi services from January by Staff Writer December 12, 2017 Omani government-owned taxi company Mwasalat has officially begun operations in the sultanate with the promise of meters and measured fares. Times of Oman reports that the company is charging a promotional starting fare of OMR1 ($2.60) for taxis hired from malls as it begins operations on Tuesday. On-call taxis will charge OMR1.2 ($3.12) between 6am and 10pm from Saturday to Thursday. Night, weekend and public holiday fares will start at OMR1.3 ($3.38) for malls and OMR1.5 ($3.90) for on-call services. A lack of metred or regimented fares has been a common complaint of tourists and residents in the country, which can face fares several times higher than the neighbouring UAE due to a lack of meters. Read: Meters coming to Oman’s taxis Mwasalat is promising a per kilometre charge of OMR0.350 ($0.91) and has allocated some 125 taxis to malls. It will also begin an airport taxi services with 100 cars from January. A new service app will soon be launched on the Apple and Google marketplaces allowing customers to pre-book taxis from anywhere in Muscat.
