Oman announces public holiday for Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, sets up 3-day weekend

Oman has announced a holiday for public and private sector workers in the country on account of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

The government announced a holiday for Thursday, September 28 – which corresponds to 12 Rabee Al Awal 1445 AH.

Oman’s long weekend holiday

The resulting holiday sets up a 3-day long weekend for those working in the public and private sector in the country as Oman follows a Sunday-Thursday work week.

Public holiday in GCC countries

The UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait have declared the dates to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.

As per tradition, Muslims observe the 12th day of the Islamic calendar month of Rabi Al Awwal as Milad un Nabi (Mawlid) the day of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. The government’s notification marks the day to commemorate the Prophet’s birthday for the Islamic Hijri calendar year 1445 AH.

While the UAE will mark September 29 as the day of the Prophet’s birth anniversary, Bahrain and Kuwait will celebrate it on September 28.
