Oman’s National Gas Company terminates CEO

Oman’s National Gas Company said it has terminated the services of its chief executive officer Goutam Sen, who was under suspension since February 2014. No replacement has been announced as yet.

Sen had been detained in 2014 over suspected bribes paid to a government official.

In a bourse statement this week, the company said: “Further to the disclosure made by the company on February 11, 2014 with respect to the suspension of the chief executive officer, Goutam Sen, the company wishes to inform the shareholders that in the board of directors meeting held on February 15, 2016, it has been decided to terminate his services with immediate effect.

“The company has received a reply from the public prosecution regarding the detention of the company’s CEO. The reply received states that the CEO has been accused of bribing a government official.”

National Gas Company was ordered by the public prosecution to pay OMR 500,000 as bail for the CEO when he was detained in 2014.

Several senior public and private officials have been accused of being part of a widespread corruption scandal in the Sultanate’s oil and gas sector in recent years.
