Oman’s historic Al Bustan Palace hotel has reopened in Muscat after a major refurbishment.

The Ritz Carlton property, which was one of Oman’s first international hotels, unveiled plans for extensive restoration work last year.

The works were carried out by Royal Estates Royal Court Affairs, luxury design firm WATG and its affiliate Wimberley Interiors.

The new rooms and suites feature décor inspired by Oman’s’ cultural and heritage including artwork focussing on the country’s artisans.

Outside, the property is introducing a new kids programme and family water area with a zip line, dedicated pool and slide and a two-level terrace with views of the 50m-infinity pool.

The hotel’s food and beverage outlets have also been revamped and include Omani Al Khiran Kitchen, the Beach Pavilion Bar and Grill and a new terrace at Asian restaurant China Mood.

Other renovations have seen the hotel’s grand ballroom modernised and Marriott said beach passes would now be offered to outside guests to enjoy the private beachfront and facilities.

“Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel has been an iconic property in Oman for more than 30 years and we are delighted to introduce the newly reimaged hotel to the local and global community,” said Alex Kyriakidis, president and managing Director, Middle East and Africa for Marriott International.

“With our established and expanding presence in the Sultanate, we remain committed to being a part of Oman’s development and look forward to setting new hospitality benchmarks across the country.”
