Pod-shaped luxury floating homes to be unveiled in Dubai

Dubai may soon get its first “organic-shaped” floating residences, thanks to Dutch developer New Living on Water (NLW).

The floating homes will be unveiled during the upcoming Cityscape exhibition in Dubai.

Prices will range depending on the size, but a 16,000 square foot house with 520 square feet of outdoor space is expected to be priced at about Dhs40m, according to reports.

Overall, the company is expecting regional sales worth $50m over the first 12 months, and at least double that in 2017-18, it said in a statement.

“A lot of people nowadays live in very densely populated areas, and for most of them this is no problem in everyday life,” said NLW’s managing director and co-owner Menno de Roos.

“But the need for some privacy and the inner need of being connected to nature has always been with us, and that’s what we’re offering.

“Our newly-developed floating residences guarantee both the privacy and nature that people are looking for, as well as the comfort of being part of a six-star super luxury beachfront resort.”

The homes have been developed by NLW in cooperation with CIG, an industrial conglomerate dealing with shipbuilding and constructional design.

“They were developed for a very small niche-market, and designed with sustainability in mind in order to create mutual respect between humans and environment. Renewable energy sources are used as much as possible.”

These are not the first floating homes to be unveiled in Dubai. European developer Kleindienst has unveiled floating ‘Seahorse’ villas within its The Heart of Europe project at The World Islands development in Dubai.

Two floors of the villas will be overwater while one level will be under water. The villas, spread across 1,700 sqft, are expected to be ready in 2017.
