Qatar Airways has announced that it will be boosting its flight frequencies to two Indonesian cities after registering strong demand on the routes.

The Gulf airline will begin additional services to Jakarta and Bali from July 5 and July 16 respectively, it said in a statement.

The service to Jakarta will be upgraded to thrice daily, bringing the total number of flights per week to 21.

Meanwhile, flight frequencies to Denpasar in Bali will be upgraded to a twice-daily operation, bringing the total number of weekly flights to 14.

The increased frequencies on these routes are also expected to connect leisure and business passengers form Europe and the Americas.

“We remain committed to growing the Indonesian market and are delighted to announce the increase in flight frequencies to both Jakarta and Denpasar,” said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways group chief executive.

Gulf carriers have been rapidly expanding to lucrative East Asian markets such as Bali, which see a large number of tourists annually.

The Qatar Airways service upgrade follows Emirates’ recent announcement of the start of a new daily flight to Bali from June.

Aside from Indonesia, Qatar Airways also serves a number of other destinations in the Asia Pacific region.

Last year, the airline started daily flights to Haneda International Airport in Tokyo, becoming its third point of service in Japan. It operates to Tokyo Narita and Osaka as well.

In 2013, Qatar Airways was also the first regional carrier to start direct flights to Cambodia.
