Queen Elizabeth II celebrates 70 years as British Monarch

Queen Elizabeth II has became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the UK, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

A respected figure across the globe, Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne on February 6, 1952.

To ring in the unprecedented event, the UK has declared a four-day bank holiday weekend, from June 2-5.

“I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last seventy years.”

On Thursday, June 2, marking the first day of the celebrations, the Trooping the Colour took place at Horse Guards Parade, followed by Gun Salutes and a flypast.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the Queen and other members of the Royal Family to watch the flypast at the start of the Jubilee celebrations.

On Friday, June 3, a Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen’s reign was held at St Paul’s Cathedral.

On Saturday, June 4, members of the Royal Family will attend the Derby at Epsom Downs event. Also, a Platinum Party will take place at the Palace with celebrities from the world of entertainment set to perform.

On Sunday, June 5, the Platinum Jubilee Pageant will bring to life iconic moments from the Queen’s reign, according to the British Royal Family website. Also, more than 60,000 people have registered to host Big Jubilee Lunches on the weekend.

World leaders sent their best wishes and congratulatory messages to the British Monarch. The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson congratulated The Queen on her Platinum Jubilee.
