Ras Al Khaimah becomes UAE’s fourth emirate to shift to 100% distance learning

All private and public schools and nurseries within the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah will shift to 100 per cent distance learning until further notice.

The decision reached by the UAE’s Ministry of Education and the local crisis and disaster management team in Ras Al Khaimah, was communicated via Twitter on Sunday, February 14.

Ras Al Khaimah has effectively become the fourth emirate in the country to introduce such a precautionary measure to stem the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The ministry’s decision regarding Ras Al Khaimah came on the same day that it had issued a similar directive to all schools and nurseries across the emirate of Umm Al Quwain.

On February 11, the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) directed students in private schools and nurseries to commence 100 per cent e-learning from February 14 until February 28, as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Two days prior, the UAE’s Ministry of Education suspended indefinitely, in-classroom learning across all schools and nurseries in Ajman, moving them to distance learning.

On February 14, the day that the announcement was made, the UAE reported 3,167 additional Covid-19 cases, raising the total case count across the country to 348,772.
